Where is Rabil?
Rabil is located inland in the central-western part of Boa Vista, between Sal Rei, Praia de Chaves and the landscapes leading towards the Viana Desert.
The village is known especially for its pottery tradition, where local artisans continue to work clay by hand using techniques passed down through generations. Its quiet streets, historic church and traditional workshops offer a glimpse into a side of Boa Vista that is very different from the island’s beaches and resorts.

How to reach Rabil
Rabil is one of the easiest inland villages to reach on Boa Vista. It is connected to Sal Rei and the airport area by road, making it accessible with a standard vehicle as well as scooters and rental quads.
Because of its central location, Rabil is also a convenient starting point for continuing towards Praia de Chaves, the Viana Desert and other parts of the island.

The Boa Vista pottery school was established in Rabil in 1960 to preserve and pass traditional pottery techniques to future generations.

One of Boa Vista’s oldest churches
São Roque Church dates back to the early 19th century and remains an important religious and cultural landmark for the local community. The official tourism portal dates the church to 1802.

The best time to visit
Rabil can be visited throughout the year. Morning is particularly suitable for walking through the village and discovering its pottery tradition before continuing towards the Viana Desert or Praia de Chaves.
Visitors interested in local culture can also experience traditional celebrations during the year, particularly the Santa Cruz festivities in early May and the celebrations dedicated to São Roque in August.
