Where is Varandinha?
Varandinha lies on the south-western coast of Boa Vista, between some of the island’s most dramatic beaches and desert landscapes. Unlike the long uninterrupted sands of Santa Monica, its coastline is divided by rocky formations that create small coves, cliffs and natural cavities overlooking the Atlantic.
The famous Varandinha Cave is one of the area’s main landmarks, shaped over time by the action of wind and ocean. The surrounding landscape is largely wild, making the area particularly attractive for photography, birdwatching and adventurous coastal exploration.

How to reach Varandinha
Varandinha is reached through the south-western part of Boa Vista, where paved roads gradually give way to sandy and unpaved coastal tracks. For this reason, an off-road vehicle is generally the most practical way to explore the area independently.Because of its central location, Rabil is also a convenient starting point for continuing towards Praia de Chaves, the Viana Desert and other parts of the island.

The best time to visit
Varandinha can be visited throughout the year, but the experience depends strongly on sea and tide conditions. Morning and late afternoon provide softer temperatures and excellent light for enjoying the cliffs, caves and coastline.
If exploring the cave, low tide generally provides better and safer access to the rocky area. Visitors should still pay attention to changing sea conditions and avoid approaching exposed sections when waves are strong.
